This is not fun horror. The Dark and the Wicked doesn’t try to entertain you. It tries to suffocate you.
From the first scene, everything feels heavy. The farm setting, the silence, the feeling that something is wrong even before anything actually happens. It’s slow, but not boring. It’s tense in a quiet, constant way.
There’s no big mythology explained. No dramatic speeches about demons. The evil in this movie just exists. And that’s what makes it disturbing.
It doesn’t rely on flashy jump scares. The fear comes from isolation. From helplessness. From the feeling that nothing the characters do will change the outcome.
Some people say it’s too slow. I get that. It’s not commercial horror. It’s not made to be “fun.” But that’s exactly why it works.
It leaves you uncomfortable. And it doesn’t care if you like that.
For me, it’s one of the most oppressive and bleak horror films of the last few years.
My Rating
8.5 / 10
Heavy, atmospheric, and genuinely unsettling.
This is just my opinion. If you watched it and felt differently, feel free to comment and share your take.
