At first, the idea of a horror movie about a killer monkey sounds almost ridiculous.

But Primate takes that concept and turns it into a tense survival story. The movie follows a group of people who end up trapped with a chimpanzee named Ben after he becomes infected with rabies and turns extremely aggressive. What starts as a normal situation slowly turns into chaos. The film doesn’t waste too much time explaining things. Once the danger becomes clear, the tension starts building and the attacks become more frequent and brutal. The idea of a chimpanzee as the threat actually works better than you might expect. They’re strong, fast, and unpredictable, which makes every encounter feel dangerous.

One of the things that works well is the atmosphere. The movie creates a constant feeling that something could go wrong at any moment. Even when nothing is happening, there’s still this sense of unease.

The violence is also surprisingly intense. Some scenes are genuinely shocking and uncomfortable, especially when the attacks happen suddenly. The movie doesn’t try to be subtle about the danger. Once the chimpanzee loses control, the situation quickly becomes deadly.

Critics have mentioned that the story itself isn’t very complex. And that’s true. Primate isn’t trying to be a deep psychological horror. It’s much more straightforward. The focus is on survival and the fear of being trapped with something powerful and unpredictable.

Some viewers might find the concept a little unrealistic, but creature horror often works best when it keeps things simple. In this case, the simplicity actually helps the movie move at a fast pace.

For me, the movie works because it doesn’t try to be something it isn’t. It delivers tension, violence, and a dangerous creature that feels genuinely threatening.

It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s definitely entertaining if you enjoy creature horror. My Rating

7.5 / 10

Chaotic, violent, and surprisingly tense creature horror.

This is just my opinion. If you watched it and felt differently, feel free to comment and share your take.
