I went into My Sister’s Bones expecting something dark and disturbing , a slow psychological horror built around family trauma and secrets. It actually tries to do that… but it doesn’t fully land. The story follows a woman returning to her childhood home after her sister’s disappearance. Things start to get strange, and little by little, the film builds toward a disturbing truth connected to the past. It’s more about tension and mystery than pure horror.
The main strength of the movie is the atmosphere. It’s quiet, uncomfortable, and at times genuinely creepy. The house, the silence, the feeling that something is wrong , that part works. You can feel the film trying to go in a Hereditary-type direction. But here’s the problem: it moves too slow without enough payoff.
The pacing drags a lot, especially in the middle. There are long stretches where not much happens, and instead of building tension, it starts to feel empty. The film clearly wants to be “deep,” but it doesn’t give enough to keep you fully engaged. The characters are okay, but not strong enough to carry such a slow story. You understand the main character, but you don’t feel deeply connected to her. That hurts the emotional impact, especially near the ending. And the ending… it’s not bad, but it’s predictable. If you’ve seen a few psychological horror films, you’ll probably figure it out early.
Rating:

Overall: 5.5/10
Final thoughts:
My Sister’s Bones has a strong vibe and a good idea, but it lacks impact. It’s one of those films that feels like it could have been great, but ends up just being decent. If you like slow, atmospheric horror, you might enjoy it. If you want something intense or shocking, this probably won’t do it. This is just my opinion , if you’ve seen it and feel differently, feel free to share your thoughts.
