Predator Badlands (2025) review 9 out of 10 rating

I didn’t feel like this movie tried to reinvent anything. It just wanted to remind us why Predator worked in the first place.

The Predator franchise returns with Badlands, a film that strips things back to survival, tension, and raw confrontation. Instead of relying on heavy sci-fi spectacle, this entry focuses on atmosphere, isolation, and the hunter-vs-prey dynamic that made the original films iconic.

And honestly, I didn’t expect to enjoy it this much.

Badlands doesn’t try to overcomplicate things. A hostile environment, limited resources, and a Predator that feels more like a silent nightmare than an action villain. That simplicity actually works in the film’s favor.

From early on, I could feel the tension building slowly instead of jumping straight into explosions. It felt closer to a survival thriller than a typical sci-fi action movie.

What stood out to me most was how quiet the film often is. Long stretches with minimal dialogue made every movement, sound, and shadow feel dangerous. The Predator isn’t just a creature here — it feels like a presence watching from a distance.

Some of the tracking scenes through the landscape created a real sense of vulnerability, and I found myself more anxious than excited, which is exactly what a Predator movie should do.

However, not everyone will love the pacing. The film takes its time, and viewers expecting constant action might find certain sections slow. A few character moments also felt underdeveloped, which made it harder to connect emotionally in some scenes.

Still, for me, the tension and atmosphere made up for that. Predator: Badlands isn’t trying to reinvent the franchise, it’s trying to remind us why it worked in the first place. It’s tense, stripped-down, and more focused on survival horror than flashy action. For me, this is one of the better Predator movies we’ve had in a long time.

Rating: 9/10
